About Us

S.E.A. Mission (Service, Evangelism, Assistance) was founded in the mid 90s, by Dr. Denton Sumrall and his wife, Carol. After a boating vacation to the Islands of the Bahamas, Dr. Sumrall and Carol saw the need for a specific Mission dedicated to the people of the Bahamas. They visited the outlying settlements on Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands and immediately established a bond with the local Pastors.

After speaking to a church in North Florida about his trip and vision of establishing a mission program to the Islands, he was approached and asked if he would assist their church in taking a team to conduct summer VBS on the Island. SEA Mission began that summer.

We assist mission teams to Grand Bahama Island to conduct vacation Bible schools, construction projects, and sports camps. Many churches and groups have found that a vacation Bible school or construction project in the Bahamas is the ideal destination for an initial foreign mission trip. We often refer to it as Foreign Missions 101.  The language is English, the crime rate is almost nil, the people are friendly and hospitable, the water is safe to drink, and medical care is readily available. Even better, the islanders love VBS.

June 26, 2024, Pastor Paul Lucas and Pastor David Harris were invited to speak on two radio stations in Freeport. They were able to share a short devotion and prayer for the sweet people in Grand Bahama. They were then asked to preach in two different churches that evening. Pastor Paul preached at Shiloh Baptist in Mather Town and Pastor David preached at Emmanuel Baptist in High Rock. We are very thankful for the doors God has opened on Grand Bahama and truly appreciate the prayers being lifted up on behalf of our entire team. We serve a mighty God!

Service

Grand Bahama Island was hit hard by Hurricane Dorian. NINETY-FIVE percent of the buildings in the East End of Grand Bahama received significant damage from Hurricane Dorian.  SEA Mission has had teams on the island since the storm. We have been assisting with the rebuilding of the East End of Grand Bahama Island as well as the relief effort. We have had teams assisting with feeding centers in three of the churches that we minister through on the island and will continue to have construction teams on the island.  Our focus is Smith Point, Matter Town, Freetown, High Rock and Pelican Point.

Donations will go toward the rebuilding of Churches that have been damaged along with homes in the areas. Understand that 100% of your donation goes directly to helping the Bahamian people, as no one on SEA Mission staff takes a salary or compensation of any sort, and all volunteers pay their own cost to travel to and from the island.

Thank you for your help and financial support! If you are interested in traveling with us, please contact us through the email address listed.

S.E.A. Mission has continued to serve the Bahamas and their communities by participating in the Summer VBS programs and assisting in several building and repair projects for over 20 years.
